Every once in a while, a guitar comes in here like a puppy out of the rain: He's got a few scratches, is a little worn around the edges and may be a little dirty, but do we turn him away? Not down here in the South, we don't. We bring him in, scrub him down, give him a new collar (or in this case, a new set of strings) and when he barks in appreciation, it's one of the warmest and nicest sounds in the house. That's the case with this '71 D- 18. It has a woody and familiar tone that you hope would come out of a 39+ year old guitar and it's feels like an old easy chair when you pick it up. There's a reason that a guitar "opens up" and only two things can do this: love and time. It can occur with any vintage guitar and that doesn't mean it has to cost five figures to sound good either. This D- 18 is a lot of vintage Martin for around 2k and considering the way it plays and sounds, that's an 'Elk kind of deal in our book. We're all about quality and tone at a reasonable price- check us out and see for yourself. |
