My first bass back in my younger days was a '72 Jazz bass and to say that I've played and owned many of them would be an understatement. Believe me, I know Jazz basses and their necks. So, as we get to this bass, two things struck me immediately: the ultra smooth and fast neck and the killer tones that could easily be pulled out of this instrument. It's easily one of the smoothest playing basses I've ever put my hands on and the S-1 switching system lets you go from a mid- rangy bark to a deep P-bass rumble with the push of a button. Simply put, it's the bass I wish I had all those years when I was swashbuckling my way through the Atlanta rock scene. As I was giving it a test run after being set up, my wife came running down the stairs yelling "Oh no you don't" and for a minute, I was surprised because I wasn't playing loud or shaking pictures, volume- wise. Come to find out, I have a "he's thinking about keeping another one" look that sets off some kind of alarm with her and Lee; Next time I check out a new bass, I'll do it underwater so they can't see what I'm thinking.... |
