Description:
At first glance, I thought this was a 1990 R0 and was getting ready to label it as such, but a quick conference with the boys over at the MyLesPaul.com forum quickly set me straight. It is, in fact a prehistoric Les Paul Standard reissue and when you see it in person, you'll realize that it bears what I refer to as "that 90's good wood". The Maple top is amazing and has a very distinct and intriguing type of figure. I have to also be clear that she's not for the faint of heart, weighing in at 9 lbs, 8 oz. That's not exactly LP Custom weight, but you better be in shape to lay out four sets of smokin' Rock or Blues with this girl. When we first received the guitar, we noticed that the front pickup ring was cracked and soon found ourselves in a dilemma: while we're known for 100% original and unaltered guitars and gear, this piece was so nice, we couldn't turn it away and now, what to do about the cracked ring. Being a bassist, I hastily voted that we waterboard the thing to see if we could get it to confess who broke the danged ring, but my Les Paul- loving business partner stepped in and quickly altered the plan. As it eventually worked out (to the great amusement of the axe), we replaced both rings with new, Gibson replacements and will include the originals in the case so the guitar will still have it's originality intact if the new owner decides to reinstall them. We think this guitar is a very nice representation of the beginnings of what has turned out to be a cultural phenomenon and one of the reasons there is such a term as "Slash Tone". If you have any questions, comments, suggestions, directions, kudos, inquiries or desires, please feel free to pick up the phone and give us a call, old school style. That's the way we like it around here anyway!
