In 1991, the Fender Custom Shop produced 60 of these Texas Special Telecasters. Over the years, we've bought and sold five or six of these wonderful guitars and every time, they never disappoint. Now spring forward to the 2011 Arlington Guitar show and sure enough, there sits this beauty and double sure enough, Lee and I roll right over the owner because this is exactly the type of guitar that we are known for. Rarity, quality and condition- these are the things we dream about at night. So as Lee is speaking with the seller, I'm looking the guitar over and as I get a gander at the neck plate, I become confused and discombobulated because I've never seen a serial number like the one on this particular six- stringer. The seller proceeds to inform us that aside from the run of 60 guitars, two addition examples were made- one for Mark Pollack, a Texas music store owner and show promoter and one for Memphis record producer, Robert Johnson. Well, as it turned out, the guitar I was holding in my hands was the one that belonged to Mr. Johnson as it bore the serial # T- ROJO. So, while the guitar is the same in features as the limited production run, it's the only one in the Milky Way that bears this serial number. To add to the excitement of the find, this package is complete with all case candy and COA. Even the large Fender owner's book is present and those are not just laying around in your local library these days. This is indeed a collector's gem and the type of package that is so hard to find, but then again you have wandered into 'Elkland, and special guitars like these are commonplace. Al ways expect the unexpected around here because that's exactly what you'll find! |
